This past Friday, my family and I were invited to Zoo Atlanta to experience IllumiNights at the Zoo: A Chinese Lantern Festival presented by Georgia Power, with additional support from Beacon Sponsor PNC. Zoo Atlanta has partnered with Hanart Culture to bring this incredible new experience to Atlanta. Zoo passes are my favorite experience gift idea that I have recommended for years because it is a gift that keeps on giving all year long.
IllumiNights opened to the public on Monday, November 22, 2021, and continues through Sunday, January 16, 2022. After dark, guests will explore the Zoo, transformed – full of awe-inspiring vistas highlighting the wonder, beauty and diversity of the natural world, from the savanna to the sea to the skies, from the depths of the rainforest to the lights of the Arctic Circle.
The event will feature more than 80 hand-crafted lanterns, some up to 20 feet tall. Each lantern is made and hand-painted by Chinese artisans, representing thousands of hours of work. In keeping with Zoo Atlanta’s commitment to sustainability, each lantern also features environmentally-friendly LED lights.
As this is an after-dark event, with very few exceptions, animals will not be out during IllumiNights. (Although we were able to see the Flamingos, the alpacas, and the Pandas.) Instead, the wildlife lights the night in the form of the lanterns, showcasing the extraordinary splendors of nature.
The Endangered Species Carousel will be open during IllumiNights. Select gift shops and food and beverage locations will also be open for purchase of festival-inspired items. The event will is open from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each night during its run (last entry at 8:30 p.m.), and advance timed reservations are strongly recommended. Visit zooatlanta.org/illuminights for reservations, information, and answers to frequently asked questions about the event. Use code ILLUMINIGHTSIF to save $2 off your ticket today.
I love zoos also. This looks like it was magical!
