10 Tips to Get Your Kids to Eat More Pork
As a parent, you want to make sure your kids are getting the best possible nutrition. This includes making sure they're eating enough protein. Pork is a great source of protein, but sometimes it can be hard to get kids to eat it. Here are 10 tips to help make pork more appealing to your kids!
Make it Fun
Kids love to have fun and eating pork doesn’t have to be boring. Try making colorful pork dishes with fruits or vegetables mixed in. Or serve pork in the form of bite-sized snacks like mini sandwiches or kebabs.
Use Variety
Pork comes in many forms – from ground pork to chops and more – so don’t limit yourself! Mix it up by incorporating different cuts and styles of pork into your weekly meals.
Get Creative
Thinking outside the box when it comes to cooking can help make meals more exciting for kids. Try preparing an Asian style stir fry with ground pork, adding pulled pork tacos to your weeknight rotation, or substituting ham for bacon in a breakfast sandwich. Or even this smothered pork chops recipe can be a great way to get your kids to eat pork.
Serve it With a Side
Most kids won’t eat pork by itself, so pairing it with a tasty side dish can make all the difference. Roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or macaroni and cheese are all great options!
Make it Sweet
Adding some sweetness to your pork dishes can help take the flavors up a notch. Try using honey, maple syrup, or even applesauce for some added flavor and nutrition.
Let Them Choose
Giving kids choices in what they eat helps them feel more empowered and engaged during mealtimes – which may result in more enthusiasm when it comes to eating pork. Offer two different preparations of pork at once (like grilled and baked) or let them choose what type of pork they want to eat (like ground vs. chops).
Add Spices
Spice up your pork dishes by adding herbs, spices, and other seasonings. This will add some extra flavor and make the dish more interesting for kids.
Let Them Help
Kids love to help in the kitchen! Get them involved in the meal prep process – from chopping vegetables to seasoning the meat - so they feel like they have a stake in it. It may also make them more likely to try things that they wouldn’t normally eat.
Make it Cheesy
Everyone loves cheese! Try adding shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or another type of cheese to your pork dishes for an extra layer of flavor. Kids will love it!
Don’t Give Up
It may take time for kids to get used to eating pork, so don’t give up if they don’t like a dish the first time around. Keep offering different types and preparations each week until you find something they enjoy. With enough variety and creativity, you can make pork a regular part of your family’s diet!
With these 10 tips, you can make pork a tasty and nutritious part of your family’s meals. Have fun in the kitchen trying out new recipes and let your kids help! With enough variety, creativity, and patience, you and your kids will soon be enjoying all the benefits that pork has to offer.
Great tips! My kids like pork if I marinate it with a teriyaki sauce - makes it a bit sweeter. They'll aslo sometimes eat it with a spicy honey marinade.
