Car Seat Safety

Car Seat Safety from a mom who makes mistakes

As a mommy, you live and learn. Fortunately this lesson, I read and didn't have to live through because it could have been horrific if circumstances were different. And being Child Passenger Safety Week, I wanted to review what a lot of parents (including me) don't know.
I am a mom who has made mistakes. I do not judge or criticize other parents decision. I try to inform the best I can. And that what this is about. I am not an expert nor do I claim to be, but I do have experience. In the image above my daughter is riding in a Toyota Corolla. I now have a van. The reason I longer have that car anymore is because I got in a terrible car accident. My daughter and friend's daughter were in the car with me. If it wasn't for the car seat safety messages I had taken, something horrible could have happened. Thank fully everyone was safe. Now, let's keep those babies safe.

Car Seat Safety

This picture is of my five day old daughter. She was born in the winter so in my new mommy head, I thought "I don't want her to be cold so I will put this cute (but very unpractical) snow suit on her". We live in Georgia. I had a car seat blanket cover. I don't know if you have ever seen one of these things but here is what they look like:

Graco Car Seat Blanket

Why couldn't I have used that?

Instead I endangered my baby's life. A few days after I did this, I read an article about taking your infant on their first outing and car seat safety. And it talked about how you shouldn't have a coat or blanket in between your child and the restraints because if you were to get in a car accident, your child could get seriously injured.

I felt terrible immediately and never did anything like this again.

Another thing that I did and looking back on it am still upset with myself, I might have used an expired car seat. I say might have because I couldn't find an expiration date. Just because a car seat doesn't have an expiration date, doesn't mean it's not expired. Since older car seats aren't required to have the expiration date on them, you don't know if they are expired or not.

Car Seat Safety
This is the carseat my mother-in-law bought from God's know where. I feel it is unsafe because it doesn't have an exp date and the straps do this.

A car seat expiration means, safety requirements might have changed, restraints wear out over time just from everyday use, aging plastic, a car seat ideally less than five years old and DEFINITELY less than ten. (Contact the manufacturer or look for the serial number online to find an expiration date.)

If you MUST use a secondhand seat, make sure it has the original instructions (or contact the manufacturer for a replacement copy), has all its parts (check the manual), has never been involved in a serious accident, and hasn't been recalled. (Check your seat's recall status here.)

Another thing that I am mad at myself for is forward facing my baby before I should have. I got the okay from the pediatrician and I had outside pressures. Why did I let those pressures overwhelm me? She wasn't ready. The American Academy of Pediatrics says keep your child rear-facing until age two. Or AT LEAST pay attention to the car seat's weight and height requirements (must meet both).

Car Seat Safety
Moved forward facing TOO early. See where her shoulders are?

I hope you find this article helpful. Don't make the same mistakes I did. And please, please, please keep those babies safe.

A Year with 'Twins', A #WordlessWednesday #Linky, Week #18

"Let me tell ya bout my best friend!"

This is B, Sweet Pea's BFF. I have been keeping her for a year as of today! And it is so crazy to think how little she was when she first started coming. B is a month younger than Sweet Pea, almost to the day.

These aren't in order but they are some of my favorite pictures of them.

When I started watching B, Sweet Pea couldn't walk, was still being breastfed regularly, I had a Toyota Corolla, and an Android.

Time flies when you are having fun.

Love these babies more than anything.

The Very Wed Game! A Valentine's Day Link-Up Post

In honor of Valentine's Day coming up, I am linking up with The Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife for a Valentine's Day Link Up. This was so fun to do. I sat down and asked him each question after I filled it out myself. So much FUN!

You can view Our Love Story HERE. :D

How long have you been married?
Her: Since July 15, 2007, so 5 and a half years.
Him: Six years in July

Where was your first date?
Her: He wanted to take me ice skating but they closed down, so we went bowling, out to eat, AND to the movies instead. ♥
Him: [A Bar-B-Q place], bowling, and the park. AND we went to the movies because we saw Shrek 3. It was a very expensive date...

Where was your first kiss?
Her: On top of a play ground slide. Most random, I know.
Him: On the slide at the park..I told her there was a toll.

Who first said, "I love you"?
Her: He did. ♥
Him: She did...wait no...I did.

What were your wedding colors?
Her: Pink and white
Him: pink and white

What is her most commonly used phrase?
Her: "You know what I'm saying?" - At least that's what I think he will say. :)
Him: "Like"
*I do say both a lot, he did shake his head in agreement when I told him my answer.*

Who is her celebrity crush?
Her: Paul Rudd. Funny, cute, absolutely adorable.
Him: Seth Rogen. I disagree about Paul Rudd, it's Seth Rogen more.
*This was hard. They are both in my top five. I just like funny guys!*

If she was ordering drinks for both of you what would you each get?
Her: Jack and Coke or a Long Island Iced Tea. Depends where we are. Those are what he drinks in Vegas. :)
Him: A Jack and Coke, Duh!

Las Vegas, NV - Paris Hotel - 2008

What is the best meal she has ever cooked you?
Her: Island Pork Tenderloin or Enchiladas
Him: Enchiladas

What is the worst meal she has ever cooked you?
Her: One time when we lived in our apartment back when we were still engaged, we had just moved in and he was late coming home from work and didn't call and I tried to keep the hamburger helped warm by keeping the eye on the stove low. Burned straight to the pot. I also had an ANCIENT crock pot and we ate way under cooked pot roast. :/But this is why I am a Stouffer's Lasagna kind of cook. :P
Him: That roast at the apartment that was raw and I had to cook Hamburger Helper while she cried the night away.

What is the most-played song on her iPod?
Her: N*Sync - pretty much anything 90's.
Him: She doesn't have an iPod. What is this 2005?

What would she say is your most annoying habit?
Her: Picking his nose in front of me, go to the bathroom for goodness sakes!
Him: Thinking about myself.

What is the last thing she does before she goes to bed?
Her: Check E-mail. :P
Him: Checks her social media. Her phone in general.

If you could throw out one item of her clothing what would it be?
Her: I think he would say my nursing night gowns. I still wear them sometimes because they are so comfy but they are huge and aren't even a very cute pattern. He always complains about them but I love them. :)
Him: Those damn night gowns.

What would you say is your favorite thing about her?
Her: I have no idea what he would say. Use to be my hourglass figure but that went out the window two years ago (I'm more pear shaped now). Maybe my eyes?
Him: Her personality. She has a dry sense of humor that not many people get. But they don't matter.

What's her go-to drink at Starbucks?
Her: Tall Caramel Frappucino
Him: Tall Caramel Frappucino. Are they (referring to these questions) suppose to be hard?

What's her blog's name?!
Her: I don't think he would get this right...but I did just buy a dot com...
Him: NannyToMommy.com

He did a GREAT job!
I am so proud! This will make our NINEth Valentine's Day together and I can still remember the first one together and I am looking forward to so many more.

For bonus points: Anyone know where the phrase, "He's her lobster" is from? :)

Weighing In, I lost a TODDLER!

LilySlim Weight loss tickers

According to Wii Fit, I am as fit as a 20 year old!

I haven't officially weighed myself in a few weeks but since then I have lost 3.4 pounds!
So glad to see the numbers going down again. :D

What I have been doing differently?
My cravings subsided after Aunt Flow's visit but I was noticing that I was eating the same even though I wasn't hungry. So that was the FIRST thing I changed!

I still want to get a day planner and get better organized so I can get beak into a regular work out schedule.

The biggest inspiration for me, is my wonderful friend has lost 10 pounds since she started her weight-loss journey around a month ago. I am so proud of her!

The other picture up there?
Well that's Sweet Pea and I talking because everyone else has been lazy! HA!
BTW my daughter weighs almost 27 pounds according to Wii.
I have lost more weight than she weighs!
I can officially say I lost a toddler. ;D

Thank you all for your kind encouraging words along this journey.
I had a doctor's appointment Thursday
and I feel my goal is so close I can almost taste it.

I posted these pictures in my Wordless Wednesday post this week and on Instagram.

I was 15.
I can not believe I thought I was fat!
So sad what society warps your to believe. :(

Still randomly using MyFitnessPal.

I am so proud, these were shorts that were SNUG during the summer! :D
