Keeping the Romance When TTC

This is a sponsored conversation from Mums the Word Network and The Stork OTC. All opinions are my own.

Being romantic when you are trying to conceive, for some, has to be a conscious effort. From ovulation strips and calendars to sperm counts, no wonder trying to conceive can feel more like work. It can be exhausting. And it can be hard on a marriage. This is my little list I have created (from personal experience) about keeping the romance when trying to conceive.

De-Stress: That can be easier said than I done, but there are ways you can try. Check out Groupon for a local deal and snag a couple's massage.

Plan Time Away: Sometimes it's nice to just get away. That means you don't have to go on some elaborate trip, you just need to get away from your living space. My husband and I took a staycation when we were trying to conceive our son and we're pretty sure we got pregnant on that trip.

Be Spontaneous: When you're trying to conceive, sometimes you can focus too much on the act and take the fun out of it. It doesn't need to be a chore. When we were trying to get pregnant with our daughter, I would make it all about the fact that we were going to make a baby. Definitely not romantic and kind of a mood killer for my husband. So get busy even when you aren't ovulating and just have fun!

Set The Mood: Yes, this can sometimes seem like a chore in itself, but dressing up can get you in a different mind set. So put on some lingerie, light some candles, and create a steamy Pandora mix.

Re-Connect: Think of ways to bond outside of the bedroom. I always say communication is key and it is a great way to de-stress too. It can help you feel closer as a couple. Go on long moonlit walks and just talk about everything.

  2. At 52, this is definitely not my issue, but I definitely hear about it from others! This advice sounds good. (As a funny side not: I had taken my glasses off for a second when I first glanced at the tips & I thought De-Stress said 'Dr. Seuss.' Oh, boy! I couldn't figure that out!)

  4. We were trying to convince for years years before we had our three year old daughter. It was always tough to keep things feeling romantic, especially when I knew I was ovulating and we felt like we were on a timeline. Funny enough, when we conceived our daughter it was during a time we weren't "trying". I know being relaxed definitely helped things! Easier said than done, though.
