Spring is finally in the air which makes it the perfect time for spring cleaning! Your list may already include dusting or re-decorating, but have you given thought to what you would be purging? There are so many things we have cluttering up our homes that actually have expiration dates. Many that I didn't know about. Make sure to check out my Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks, too.
Towels. This one I had NO CLUE about, but it makes a lot of sense. Think about all the mold and mildew that accumulates in your towels over time. You can bleach them back to white, but just because that mold can't be seen, doesn't mean it isn't there. Yuck! They say that if they they're over six months old, then you should toss them. But I think if they over a year you should be good.
Cosmetics. Did you know your beauty products have an expiration date? Most cosmetics have an expiration of six months. Some of the don't have it listed, so your best bet is to write the date you opened it on the bottom.
Car Seats. This one you might have known, but maybe you didn't know why. Car seats have an expiration date because they are made of plastic. Plastic expands as it gets hot and car seats are left in the hot car all the time. If you can't find the expiration date on the car seat, call the manufacturer. When in doubt, throw it out. Check out my post on Car Seat Safety.
Cleaning supplies. When we were purging our old house to move out, we found a ton of old cleaning supplies from my couponing days. Although they didn't have an expiration date, but you could tell that they were way past their prime. Most have the date they were manufactured on them and most products average to about 12 months, but why would you want it in your house if you haven't used it in that time frame anyways.
Medication. All medicines have expiration dates that tend to get overlooked, but it’s always a good idea to check the dates, and re-stock any essentials for when sick gets real! Don't be tempted to keep them. As a busy mom, I always like to have my Sick Kid Essentials on hand so I like restocking them during spring cleaning time because I am purging anyways.
