Every year my son has had a Dr. Seuss parade at his school every year to celebrate Read Across America Day. The National Education Association's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people.
With my daughter, my mother-in-law made a "Cat In The Hat" embroidered shirt that was pink, but with my son I didn't want to bother her so I thought I would try something homemade and easy since that's how I roll.
I actually made this shirt last year for my son, but forgot to share. And since I know some of you may be last-minute-moms like myself, I thought I would share since you can run out to any craft store or probably even Target/Walmart and find these items to make tonight - if you are in a rush for something! The other thing I like about this craft is how easy it is. Basically you just glue a few things on a shirt and your done.

We love the Lorax and a personal favorite of Dr. Seuss. It is about the fall of the environment and how it is our job to take care of it. The Lorax is the on who confronts the "Once-ler" (who actually tells the story) and all his bad deeds that didn't seem so bad at the time, but now that he knows they are bad, he wants to do better. And that's what we should do. Although mistakes have been made, going forward we should do better.
What You Need:So being a favorite in our house, of course I had to re-create him. I'm going to add a few Amazon affiliate links (if you make a purchase I get a small commission at no cost to you), but you can most likely find these items at your local store too since shipping can take at least two days ;) :
- fabric glue
- large googly eyes
- dark yellow felt
- pink felt
- scissors
- bright orange shirt (oversized for your child) - I bought mine at Michael's Craft Store
- this printable Lorax outline (or you can freestyle it)
What You Do:
Seriously just cut out the correct shapes, glue where needed, and you're done.
As you can see I made a sign to go with it. And my son LOVED it! My son doesn't normally like to dress up too much so this was the perfect costume/non-costume for him.
Going through ideas, I didn't realize how many beloved characters that Dr. Seuss actually had! the Grinch, Cat In The Hat, and so many more!
