We all want the best for our families, there’s no doubt about that, and how we go about ensuring that goal is what many of us will spend a big chunk of our lives pursuing. In today’s age, we have so much more to be worried about than our parents did or grandparents. Now, we have to worry about online safety, the safety of our daughters at night, and how to raise boys that are not afraid to be men, but still know how to respect women.
It isn’t easy that’s for sure, and finding the right advice can be equally challenging too.
But fear not, because we’ve had a look at some of the top advice sites on the net and compiled a list of things to be aware of to raise a young family safely.
Let's Start with Safety Online
It’s no news that our world is only going to become more digitally connected, not less and that means that more of us need to teach our children about the benefits of online life, but indeed - also the potential for danger.
Not least of which is teaching them how to be safe when using social media and (sadly this is a real discussion now), the dangers of pornography.
You can find some of the top online porn blockers, here.
Teach Your Children About Road Safety
It is never too early to start teaching your children about road safety and it starts with ensuring that your small children are in car seats and know how to buckle up. Your children will learn about road safety by watching you and how you behave when driving, crossing the road, or cycling. The United States has a terrible road safety record, and unfortunately, far too many victims are children or young adults. Information saves lives.
Educate Your Family About Alcohol
You cannot be around your children 24-hours a day, and you also can’t police them 24-hours a day either, this presents significant challenges to parents with children, yes, but certainly parents who have children that are about to become teenagers. It is still far too easy for minors to get access to alcohol and this ends in far too many tragedies as a result.
But open, honest, and sincere communication is a good start, that - and always making sure that they have your telephone number programmed into speed dial.
Learn CPR and Basic Life-Saving Skills
Right up there with ensuring the health and fitness of our families, is knowing what to do when things go wrong. Learning how to administer CPR can make the difference between life and death and it’s relatively easy to learn how to do it. MyCPR Now certifications can help you learn these and other essential life skills.
It’s also a good idea to learn how to make a splint, stop bleeding, treat sunburn, and know the signs for hypothermia and how to treat it.
Remember that all good practices begin with you. You are the safety officer of your home and the more you display skill at these different elements, the greater the chances your children will take them seriously too.
These are all great tips. Online safety is really important now with all the predators.
